just my recent experience - we had a brand new Flying J open a few months ago, both my tanks were empty so I filled both at their new station and within 2 days my WIF light came on. I wrote them but never heard a word in response. I typically buy from a no name local 3 station chain and in 3.5 years have never had the light come on from their fuel. Maybe not indicative but I considered it significant.

Well... When I said Big Name stations.... I meant stations in your area that you are familure with.

When I said, Bubba'z Git it'n Go Dezel Service, I mean the one with a dirt lot, pumps that loose prime.... with the panels missing, with the Big yeller dog that Hikes on yer Weld Wheels, whilst yer fuel'n. The one with the kid with REAL Bubba teeth.... that wantsta talk about someone you don't know... or his girlfriend, whilst yer fuel'n. With the Dezel thats cheap.... but smells funny.

Those ones.;) :) :D

I'v been lucky enough to learn that my No Name (but locally known) station takes a Diesel delivery on Thursdays..... I fuel every Sunday or Wednesday. (Paved lot, new pumps, no dogs, you pump yer own.)

When "On the road", I fuel where the Big Trucks fuel.

Over the past 120K I have never had my water in fuel light come on...and I don't drain it periodically. Maybe twice a year. Heck, it seems that I change the fuel filter more frequently than draining it for water. :D

I get my diesel at the least expensive service stations.

I always add Stanadyne Performance Formula.

I was told to get diesel at the busiest stations because of freshness/water contamination, but to me price is more important.
Ditto, except I use DieselKleen instead of Stanadyne. My fuel bowl gets drained when the filter gets changed.

I have over 120k, almost never drain the fuel bowl and I have never had the WIF light on. I have never seen any water come out of the bowl so I quit draining. I buy fuel at decent stations, mostly from a Chevron cardlock I have a membership to so I should be getting good gas anyway. I have a Wix spin on before the pump os I figure that would catch any junk that would get in there anyway. I look more for the stations that give better mileage. There is a Union 76 in Reno that seems to give me 1mpg better than the Chevron I normally run. Must be good stuff.

We were just on a road trip up to St. Cloud MN last weekend and I was a little bummed about my mileage on the winter blend. I know it's not the truck because the mileage seems to vary by where I pick up my fuel. Anyway, I filled up at the Pilot truckstop there in St. Cloud. It didn't look overly busy but I seemed to get much better mileage on the way home. (almost 2 mpg higher) I had attributed it to the pump saying #2 Diesel on it and figured that somehow they were not using winter blend. (which is very strange for Northern MN. :) ) Anyway, when I got home and was doing my paperwork I noticed on the fuel ticket that it was a 5% blend of bio-diesel. I was always under the impression that you'd see a slight drop in mpg for bio but I'm starting to think it must be better than winterblend.

Oh yeah, back on topic. I fill at the local mom & pop. I was leery about doing it when we moved in here 3 years ago, but I see all of the local truckers filling up there so I figure there's got to be pretty good turnover. (plus they're the only diesel within a 10 mile radius). I've never had a problem, nor seen any drop in mpg vs. the big truck stops.

Have a good one,
Dave
