pretty much what ive said...E85 is a JOKE...diesel tractors plant and
harvest it, diesel trucks haul it to market, it takes MORE processing and
you and i pay to have it processed and keep the cost (at the pump lower)

all this while e85 produces LESS energy (lower mpg) than conventional
gasoline & oil (which doesnt need to be planted or harvested) !

Wow.................in a recent discussion with friends I made some of these exact points.

Didn't know others thought the same way.

hell now the impact is even greater reaching...seen the price of
an ear of corn or sugar lately !?!

everything that NEEDS corn is UP...beef, chicken, MILK and corn on the cob...
damm tree huggers dont get it do they.

im all for reducing our dependency on foreign oil but we could do that a
HELL of alot easier by building some nuke plants and drilling off-shore or
in alaska.

We also need to build more refineries. We're now importing gasoline from Canada and Europe. The US hasn't built a new refinery in over 30 years due to the exhaustive permit process to build one. If we had a few more refineries, the prices would drop even more. That's one of the biggest reasons that gas prices have been so high, not enough refineries. In addition, the auto companies could "tweak" their engines to get 40-50 mpg without any alterations. With all the electronics in the cars nowadays, it should be alot easier than in the old "carburetor" days. Just my 2 cents worth.

Why would an oil company want to build another refinery? :dunno They'd drop many millions of dollars in to construction only to see the the supply increase and the price drop and their profit margin drop.

if theyre smart about it theyll realize that more US BASED drilling
and refining will bring work (AND CONTROL) back state side...

if the government can subsidize corn for e85 why not drilling, refining
and nuke plants for electricity ?

look at the investments the American oil companies have made in
venezuela, sudan & hati...only to have the corrupt governments
STEAL the drilling platforms right out from the very people who DID
the work...invest BILLIONS in discovery and drilling only to see some
nut job government steal it for themselves...

same thing happens in the middle east...who do you think goes
over theres and does the discovery and dirlling....while the sheik
take the bulk of the profits...

you all have good points and things should be done but the main point is eventually there will be no oil to burn. As for planting and harvesting cost I think thats a moot point seeing as how they have to build transport and drill then transport the oil back and then refine it. Givin time tractors used to plant and harvest can be run on soy diesel or ethanol and for land they are continuing research in hydroponics which could eliminate the need for so much land

Man they are all over the place! Sounds like a couple of Profs that have run a muck at their university!
You are right, diesel equipment to plant Biodiesel feedstock that can use Biodiesel to do it.
Sounds like their underlining theme is reforestation due to deforestation which from what I have heard is in fact a problem from where they are located.
The US will react according to economy with some give in the "Green" arena.
IMHO
