These are the trials and tribulations of a first year model we all know this look at the early 99 strokes, 92 F-series and the 08 superduty. It's all part of it and Ford will work it out for their large base of Diesel owners.

I still can't wait for mine. That's only a minor problem in my book.

I'll only get concerned if it's a major internal problem in the engine.:D

A Power Stroke that farts flames? Can this feature be retrofitted to the 6.0? Somehow the belchfire would be a plus far beyond introducing diesel exhaust to the ricer with an attitude in the right lane. :sly It would be as if the truck would say to all comers, "Not only can I smoke your A**, get TOO close and you will be a FLAMING A**!

Sorry, I could not resist.

only 8400 (6.4l) trucks on the road...seems kinda SLOW
sales wise...when you consider their typical numbers are 50k per MONTH !

at least they arent denying this (like they did w/ the early 6.0s)...theyre
tryin to get AHEAD of the problem...they need this truck, it MUST be
a successful seller for the company to survive (it is the most profitable
"thing" they sell & if that werent great news alone for ford...its
the NUMBER ONE seller in their product line)

in the mean time *I* am sitting back watching & waiting (as if i
could afford a 60k dollar truck)...and apparently the numbers prove
LOTS of other folks are doing too...the old adage applies
"never buy the 1st model year....of anything..."

O.K. So the truck can blow flames out of the tailpipe and start grass fires. The software upgrade will have the truck powering down so the unsuspecting owner can pull over and let it cool off? Is there a flame thrower icon on the dash that lights up to tell you this? Or perhaps a recording? "Warning: The tailpipe is now in afterburner mode." And this will just be for openers. I live near a dealer and have seen as many 08's being flat-bedded in as I've seen on the road. I hope this doesn't become a disaster for Ford's sake. If this truck becomes an Albatross, they are in dire straits. :(

F350drw1... it wont be dire straits for FORD...itll be called TOYOTA ;)

you knwo if you consider how these NEW trucks (and every other new
passenger diesel) work its not all that surprising theyre flame throwers.

periodically they OVER FUEL the truck to BURN the collected soot...
it even SOUNDS like a disaster waiting to happen.

Oh I can see it now;

Your in your brand spanky new $65,000 F-450, got your trailer hooked up moving down a busy interstate like in Salt Lake City, P-filter gets hot, truck shuts off and your not in one of the outside lanes........ Or... your in the outside lane, you pull over and start the barrow pit on fire. I guess the more of them they sell around here, the more brush fires I will be responding to.

I also don't know about the rest of you, but when my trucks not running, I do not power steering or good braking......

That's the most bizarre fix I have heard lately. :roflmao

Maybe Ford can install something like Kitt, and it will say...*Your Name* my butt is on fire..please assist.

Seriously, I bet they will take care of it, and everything will be ok after that...hopefully. Everything is still in the teething stage. I dont think it should be called a failure as of yet.
