The employee pricing programs being offered are definitely a gamble by all the companies, but it's very good for the consumer. As you can see in my thread "Got A New Ford Five Hundred", I got a very good deal due to the program. My car was $100.00 under the factory invoice. I'd recommend to anyone who is considering a new vehicle, to at least get some prices during this promotion. Your best bet is to deal with a fleet salesman. However, any salesman can make the same price, but the fleet salesman will probably more straightforward with everything. When I make a deal, my salesman (who is the dealer's fleet sales manager) shows me a copy of the factory invoice and adds a certain amount and the deal is made. This time with the 500, he showed me the employee price, so there was even less "dealing".

Agree about the "dealing"....
having the exact invoice in front of you from your own online source like kbb.com or edmunds.com helps cut down on the bs....

even though the family pricing is a deal for those that can't deal...
it is still above invoice and does not take into consideration the 3% holdback most dealers get :)

That's true, I don't mind letting the dealer get the holdback. Plus I've been on the other side as a salesman and have made my living from sales commissions. I know how to deal and make deals; I just like to have things as simple as possible. When we bought our 95 Crown Vic, we drove it and made the deal in less than 30 minutes.

Another note about "dealing": When I worked as a salesman (in 1986) for the dealership where I buy my vehicles, I had a guy who was a home building contractor who wanted to buy a new truck for $100.00 over invoice. This was when XLT Lariats listed around $20,000. I took the percentage that the $100.00 was of the cost and added that percentage to the cost of a home that he built and asked him if he'd sell a home at that price (I think I added about .75% to a $100,000 home). He said he would if he had to but wouldn't want to. I said that I could sell the truck for $100.00 over invoice, but didn't want to because I had to make money as well as the dealership. Ended up selling it for a $700.00 gross profit and pocketed 35% of that for my commission. Nowadays salesmen can't do that with all the research people are doing.

Yea, that's what I'm not still selling cars. I love cars, but closing deals as a salesman were very tough. I can show a customer all the car's features, do test drives all day long, but absolutely hate the closing of a deal. Another thing that "irks" me about car salesmen is when they start degrading their competition. My youngest son was thinking about a Nissan Frontier a few weeks ago, the salesman said that the only way Ford could sell vehicles was with rebates and they had to give them away. What an idiot!!!

I know what you mean, I've seen people do that (including family members).
What's worse is seeing someone speak to someone with a huge smile and say "Hi Honey, you look so cute in that outfit!", then when they walk away out of earshot, the same person says "Stupid B*tch." I do not like "fakes" like that.

Just kidding too. My mom does that alot too. On the "stupid b---" part, I used to work with a lady who did just that - smile at someone like they were her best friend then criticize them after they walked away. Like the old saying goes "It takes all kinds of people to make the world" That's what keeps things interesting and not boring.
