Question Ford,Chevy,Dodge Tranny opinions....

Need comments on Trannys:

Friend of mine has Chevy Slvdo (4 speed AT) gas (Ugh). Tranny went south this weekend.

I've heard positives about the Allison Tranny in the Chevy. Wonder what the Tranny experts/repair guys out there think of the Ford Tranny (Auto, 6.0L) compared to what is out there in Dodge and Chevy????

I do moderate towing with loads from 1000# to #7500 with grades of 3-6%.
No problems yet with my 05 and I hope they don't come knocking....THANKS!!

the 5r100 supposed to be great. The allison is not the same tranny as in the med duty trucks. They are good too but, in my opinion not any better then the ford. I dont dare mention on this forum that the 48re in the dodge is good too.

5R100 is a very solid tranny. this was a huge improvement for ford over the 4R100...I have not heard anything about dodges...but ive always felt them to be kinda weenie

All three are about the same. I am a little partial to the Torque Shift.

thr 47re from dodge had failures, but could be built up real well, and make a great trans. the 48 is cool as is. Only main issue is if you let it idle in park no fluid circulates. It needs to be in nuetral and use E brake to idle for a while. Or modded so the fluid moves. As Dave said, all good now.
The ford trans is probably the best in the bunch, out of the box. The allison is cool too. But more hype then anything.

I think I speak for many of the guys when I agree with you that Dodges are kinda weenieish

dodge trannys were weak. Good now, especially the 68re new ones. Or the aisin.
But i certainly am not going to argue the dodge vs ford thing. I like em both. I like big diesel trucks regardless.

i would rather have the allison over the torque shift anyday! don't know about the dodge, but hear it is still junk.
