Speaking of flags surviving battles, I've got one that survived a tornado. In 1988, at a previous job, I was a "fair share giver" at our annual United Way fundraiser and received a small desktop flag (mounted on a small pole and base, appoximately 11" tall). In 1994 our house was blown to bits by a tornado and deposited in the neighbor's lawn across the street. In the rubble, my flag survived. It's sitting on my desk now, the only "damage" is the smudges of soil that were engrained into it by the storm. It's even still glued to the flagpole. The base also has plenty of soil on it that is almost impossible to remove.

My grandfather was in the Army way back when.. Last year for X-mas my cousin and I gave him a folded flag that I flew over Afganistan during a "HIDE and SEEK" Mission and over Iraq During the "ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT" in the Fighter Jets, My cousin flew it in the C-5 over hostile areas also, for dropping and evacuating supplies, wounded, and dead soldiers... It sets proudly in his house in a triangle case with my cousins and my name engraved on the shadow box with certificates framed and our pictures holding the flags in the planes during the missions..
