2004 6.0 130k miles. Daughter drives back and forth to school (fuel $), we use a 1x a month to pull the 5th wheel.
She couldn't get it to start just cranked and blew black smoke.
I measured FICM and voltage said 17v then jumped to 48.5v.
I pulled it out and solder the 16 points on the bottom and the 8 on the top.
It then starts right up but sounds like it is missing on a cylinder.

Pull FICM and have the electronic guy at work solder it. Heck maybe I didn't do a good job.
Install it and it acts like it is still missing.
Then at 50mph and steady state speed it starts chugging. I add some throttle and it feels better but then chugs once I get to a steady speed.
Any help would be appreciated.

FYI. It has been studded and Bulletproofdiesel EGR cooler at 96k.
Have not ran a tuner since I had the studs installed at 96k miles.

It is common for FICM components to fail - not just soldering issues.

Highly recommend FICMRepair.com

having issues right now with mine. Im buying a brand new one with a 40hp tune on it from a shop in washington. mainly because i wont have any downtime. they are waving the shipping and core charge as long as mail mine back on time. let me know if you want details. they said they can get em tuned from 40hp to 100hp or just an economy tune with no hp added.

Hooked up a scanner and cleared the codes.
P0278 #6 contribution balance.
So next step is to ........

Replace injector #6 and others on that bank?

Here is where I ask "What do you drive?" Fill out your signature with this info and we all will know. Go to the USER CP in the Quick Links above.

swap holes with the injector. see if it stays with that hole and not the injector. then you know its new ficm time.

Should I change oil run some REVX and then drive and see if it clears up or just bite the bullet and replace injectors for that bank?
BTW 130k miles

Injectors go out on these motors at unusual mileage intervals. Mine lost #6 at 72,000 miles, so I would recommend changing that one. I don't go for the RevX solution. Your choice.
