Does anyone know what brand and weight oil Ford uses from the factory. I have 3000 miles on my truck and want to put the same oil into it on the first oil change. I have doubts that my dealer would know. They have told me some things about my truck that I found out were not true.
Thanks

I haven't changed mine yet either so if anyone has some preferred oils to use you'd help me out too. Maybe even some lessons learned from oil changes to help the newbies out.

Your truck came with 15w40 oil. 10w40 is gas wieght oil. Check to be sure it is rated for diesels. Motorcraft is the brand of oil.

Daves right 15w40 for diesels, and like he said motorcraft filter and fluid from factory.... but it really doesnt matter castrol exxons or anyone elses 15w40 is gonna be fine and in some cases better. all meet or Exceed OME specfications meaning there as good as suggested my Ford or there better....

Most likely 10w-30 motorcraft. Its considered break-in oil. Ok for use as long as your not towing. Gotta wait out break-in. If its new, it ain't 15-40. And before I get flamed, do your homework.

I have been using Rotella 15w40 since oil change 1 on both rigs, (you can get both oil and filter at Walmart and save a bundle).

BTW, you will love how easy the oil change goes.

I too am new. My 06 PSD is getting close to it first oil change and I want to use the Synthetic oils in it.

Is any one else using Synthetic 5W-40 in their truck and can you tell a difference in MPG and power? I use ELF 5W-40 in my VW diesel and that is what is required by the factory.

I use syn oil in my 6.0 and I love it. I would hold off using syn oil until you get a few more miles on her. I would go 10,000 miles befroe using syn oil. I did not notice anything as far as mileage or power, but I did notice my trucks runs smoother all of the time. I did this to get rid of the romps at start up when cold.

Research

After doing some research, I am going to go with Dello 400 15/40 and Donaldson P550528 oil filters. I purchased them at a International dealer for $29.11 each, which is more than Walmart's price of $15.00 for a Fram, but I think the Donaldson is a better filter. I heard today that Cosco is selling Dello 400 for $7.99 per gallon, so I am going to get a couple of cases. Wallmart sells it for just over $9.00 per gallon. I am going to change my oil every 5000 miles, except for this first one, which will be at 3000 miles.
For a hobby I build FE Ford race engines, and always replace the new oil after engine breakin which is after about 20 minutes with new oil and filter to remove any lint etc. that might have gotten into the engine. (cheep insurance). It is probably overkill, but worth the peace of mind.
