ive got auto meter z-series and im happy w/ 'em....they seam accurate
and theyre reliable...can get replacements just about anywhere and
theres a million retailers/online and brick and mortar.

theres just about every combination needle, font & gauge color anyone
could want available from autometer.

jegs.com or summit.com if you wanna put your own set together or
consider one of the forum sponsors who've already put the gauges in
the pod and wired 'em (i havent honestly compared those prices to building
my own...but building your own is easy enough).

i have mine mounted on the a-pilar....had to give up my grab handle
(but i doubt you need one on the drivers side anyway).

i think if i had to do it over again id probably mount the gauges up
over the rear view mirror or down under than dash.

on edit <to add photos>:

ive painted <to match> the gauge pod...and several friends have asked
if they were a factory option...and one of the friends in particular has a parent
who owns a superduty (non diesel).

If youre interested....I have a 2 gauge (a-pillar) pod...ill make you a sweet deal on it (pay the shipping and
its yours)...it has been primerd and painted (to match my interior) but will need another coat of paint to
"freshen it up"....or you can paint it to match YOUR interior.

Thanks Bush;

Your setup looks very nice. At my age, and height, I use the grab handle.
The gauges that I would like to have for my truck are:
Pyro, water temperature and engine oil temperature that would be more accurate than the stock gauges. WD sent me a pm on the BDX Monitor, that is small and out of the way, but it only has one of the three gauges that I need. The autometer gauges look good, but I need to find a place that they would fit and be out of the way.
The BDX Monitor has pyro, boost, and trans temp.

AUTOMETER makes paintable pods that support up to FOUR gauges
mounted over the rear view mirror or under the dash.

at a minimum you need a transgauge (if you have an automatic)
and an EGT gauge...the boost gauge falls into the fun & interesting
category (although they are helpful in diagnosing problems).

i agree it would be nice to have better gauges (the factory supplies
little more than idiot lights w/ pointers)...the oil pressure gauge
moves to the CENTER w/ as little as 6psi and even the water TEMP
gauge is a resistance "range" gauge...as is of course the auto trans
factory gauge.

it would be nice to have oil & water temp, as well as oil pressure & temp
in addition to the pyro & trans (aftermarket) gauges.

so flopster....got any info on your ccv mod ? are you filtering it ?

It just dumps out by the trans. No filters. I'm thinking about trying to weld a bung into the down pipe and use the venturi thing to send it out that way. I just haven't got to it yet.

I think that the ISSPRO gauges match the factor cluster better. Black face red pointer series. That's what I put in the truck. Quad A-pillar with fuel press, pyro, boost, and water temp.

One more mod I forgot to add, is the door seal mod. It made a huge difference in the truck as far as the wind/road noise.

Yep Bush
The factory gauges leave a lot to be desired.
On our trip to the coast, our engine fan came on once, but our engine temperature gauge never moved out of the middle range, going up and going down hills pulling our rv.

the coolant temp isnt much better (basically no change from before 104* til
after just before 212*)

Hey Flopster843 what is the door seal mod out of curiosity and how thanks

Basicaly you get 3/8 OD 1/4 ID clear poly/vinyl hose from Lowes. I bought 65 ft and had about 5 feet left over (crew cab) for about $12. Then remove the door seals, soap the hose with dish soap, and snake it into the door seal, then reinstall. It realy helps with the wind/road noise. The only down side I see is that you have to close the doors a little harder. Not by much though.

Here is the writeup I used. Thanks to all who contributed to it.
