First Blackstone Report...

Finally sent a sample to blackstone to be tested. The whole process was MUCH faster than I expected. I think I sent the sample in Tuesday or Wednesday last week. Their website had me expecting a month delay.... got the results today.

Here's what they found:

Good:
Antifreeze - 0
Water - 0
Insolub. 0.2

Not So Good:
Viscosity: 66.7 (sb 69-79)
Flashpoint 395 (sb >415)
Fuel: 2% (sb <2)
Lead 16 (sb 4)

While the 2% in fuel is high, they just suggested another sample in 5K.... They say the lead is probably from the fuel dilution.

Overall, I'm happy to see what this looks like. I kinda expected the fuel, I think I want to replace my injector o-rings and this would give me a good excuse to do that (if it stays in that area over another test period)

Any thoughts from some of you guys that get this done all the time?

is that all they tell you? i use caterpillar, and they give you a breakdown of all the different minerals, metals, and other things as well as viscosity, glycol, fuel, etc.

No, they list all of these, but since they were normal, I didn't list them...

@ 276,152 miles (4,308 on the oil):


Viscosity: 75.3 (Should be 69-78)
Flashpoint: 435 (Should be >415)
Fuel %: <0.5 (Should be <2.0)
Antifreeeze: 0 (Should be 0)
Water: 0 (Should be <0.1)
Insoluables: 0.3 (Should be <0.8)

Al was high at 4ppm and Na high at 8ppm. Every thing else was good.

I use Delo 15W40. What are you using?

I wouldn't be overall happy w/ the report. I would take steps to rid myself of the fuel problem ASAP! Then flush the oil and get another report after you put some miles on the new oil. The low visc reading is due to the fuel contamination, as is the low flash reading. The Pb is most likely due to the low visc causing excessive stress to the bearings. You didn't post the elemental numbers so I cannot comment in those.

Do yourself a favor, fix the fuel problem and dump the oil.

Fuel dilution is death to internal combustion engines.

This has me very curious, so I just ordered a test kit from blackstone.

BBR, hope the next test comes out better.
