Question Filter Material Becoming Brittle

Has anyone else had a problem with the filter material, in the fuel filter, becoming hard or brittle? Specifically the small filter. I needed to change mine a few days ago and noticed the paper was very hard. Is it the ULSD or did I get a bad filter the last time I changed them? I changed them last October or November (2009) and have only put ~4000 miles on it since then. It could also have something to do with the fact that my truck sometimes sits for long periods between running. Thoughts???

What brand of fuels filters are you using?

they may look brittle but if they are OEM that is the best u can buy

I do not remember what brand they were - not Motorcraft, unfortunately. What about the ULSD would cause the filter material to become hard/brittle? Or is it likely to be something else? I could understand gasoline...I have had it happen to those filters, especially if they sit a while.

well in the world of 6.0 the gospel is do not wonder from oem fuel and oil filters

and I have seen some pics that make me a believer
