Hey all. Last week my 06 started making this LOUD fan noise when driving. I took it in and they said its just the transmission fan cooling itself down and that everything looks fine. they said I need to tone it down when I am towing. I said I’m not towing, its making this sound just driving to the store. Then they blamed the heat. It just started making the sound and its been in the 90s all summer so I don’t buy that answer.

Any ideas as to what I can have them look at?

sounds like the fan clutch to me. it will spin up from time to time when it gets hot outside. it makes a pretty loud noise...almost sounds like a big rig takin off. i dont think its anything to worry about at all. a lot of times if mine is engaged, ill get on a straight away and lay into it. after i get past 2000 rpms, it usually disengages.

If it does it excessively, then I'd have them look at the oil cooler. If the truck detects a large difference between the coolant temp and the oil temp, it will cause the fan to run a lot more than it normally would.
