I am purchasing a 99 F 550 this weekend and I am curious as to what differences there is between the 450 and 550. Do they use the same drive train and suspension? Is it possible to use a 450 spring set up to lower the rear of the 550? I will be towing a 5'R and I would prefer to have the rear of the bed about an 1" to 2" lower. Thanks.

Some where I have a book..... but of course this does not help us now.... Playing from memory, I am pretty sure there is no difference in Spring sets betwwen the two, the 550 is rated a bit higher as it had a slightly larger rotor for the disk brakes. From what I remember the 450 had a 13" rotor the 550 had a 13.25" rotor, Both came with on the 4X4 model... 4 leaves on the Front .. 6 on the rear with optional overloads..... but again this is all by memory.... thats what I recall...from about 5 years ago.... Hopefully my co-hearts will chime in with exact #'s to see if I have half a brain left.... may have to go out and harvest a fresh one.....
