I will need to buy some tires for my '01 F250. I use the truck for family trips and as my hunting vehicle. I spend time in the sand down near the outer banks and in the red clay med here in the foothills. I had good luck with mileage & traction with the Firestone SteelTex ATRs that came on the truck. I got 43K out of them and gave them to a friend who ran them for 3 years on his '88 K1500 GMC shortbox.
The truck currently has Uniroyal Laredos on it. Basically, these tires suck. I have had two of the original 4 have belt separations. I have one on the rear acting like it is going bad. These things do not have good traction in the red clay, becuase the tread does not clean well, but they do ok in the wet sand. I wish I had gotten an AT tread instead of the all season. Oh well, lesson learned. Will not buy Uniroyal tires again.
I have looked at the Terra Grapplers, Pirelli Scorpions and the BFG ATRs in the E load range. I am still running the factory aluminum wheels and the stock tire size of 265/75R16. Michelins do not have an aggressive enough tread design from what I have seen.
Any opinions on what I will be happy with? I prefer a tire with a white letter, so the Nittos have been moved to the bottom of the list for now. OWL is not a deal breaker. Tire noise is not an issue, since I no longer have the muffler .
