Guess this is how my first thread starts...

Anyways, my truck is on the side if I-35, not able to start. The truck has been sitting about 5 days, when I tried to start it up, the battery was a little low, but it fired up no problem and idled about 5 mins before I left the house. Once I left, I got on the highway and set the cruise control, when all of sudden it started to shudder as if I needed a tire ballanced or running over the rumble strips. It lasted about 10 seconds when I tried to add gas and it continued to lower the RPM until it just died. Also, we working on a 06 F250 with 57k miles. Replaced the EGR and cooler about 7k miles ago too. I don't know when the fuel filter has been changed. Any other opinion of whats going on? This all happened within 10 miles of home. Appreciate any and all help that I can get.
Cheers,
Mike

It really sounds like its out of fuel. When was the last time the water was drained off the HFCM?

not much to go on...if its cranking and NOT starting then the
1st things id check for are 1) codes 2) and then id be looking
at the HPOP pressures.

the 05-07 had a hpop connector bracket failure/problem.

the hpop must develop a minimum of 500psi to fire the
injectors...the maximum pressure developed by the hpop
is just under 4000psi at full throttle.

SOMETIMES you can crank long enough to build
the 500psi (if the connector is leaking)...

eventually seals need to be replaced & the bracket added.

FDDTS - HPOP Connector Bracket

investigate the codes & monitor the hpop pressure, itll
be a good indication of what may or may NOT be wrong.

Not sure, as I just purchased the truck in December with just a tad under 50k miles. Isn't there a light that should come on to let me know to purge the water? And how often should I do this task? Guessing I can do this at roadside before I call a tow truck?

As far as HPOP, where is this located so I can see if it has failed? Like I said, it just shuddered and then died. Once I got onto the sholder, it would crank fairly good, but no fire.

Wonder if your alternator went toes up.

Mine acted that way when it ran out of juice.

DONT wait for the "WIF" (water in fuel) light to come on.
drain it at every other oil change or so and youll be fine.

I TRY to drain mine every 6mo or so.

the Drain is on the HFCM (mounted inside the frame rail
under the drivers door)

Page 29: Fuel Supply System

the 6.0L has TWO fuel filters...one on top of the engine &
one in the HFCM on the frame rail (change 'em both when you
change 'em).

The HPOP is at the back of the motor...in the valley, under the
turbo and other crap...on the 6.0L the HPOP is gear driven off
the cam at the back of the motor....you should be covered by
the 5/100k warranty (100 buck deductible)

I'd start with something simple like fuel filters, and try to jump it. Throw a volt-meter on and see where the alternator is at. Should be putting out about 14.2 to keep up with everything. Of course thats if it starts. If it does, you need to check voltage going to battery, and have batteries load tested. The fuel filters being shot, and / or water in HFCM is the least of your worries, as far as $. Alternator / batteries are a bit pricey, but it sounds to me like it may have HPOP issues. The bracket kit for the HPOP has now been superceded by another fix involving new fittings. Its called an OPF kit [one piece fitting] and is currently being used. The only other things I could think of would be ICP sensor or CPS sensor.

Put a voltmeter on the batteries. If the alternator died the bats on the dead truck will read 9-11 volts.

If an admin would like to move this to Superduty 6.0L section, that would be fine with me. We've towed it off of the highway back home so I can start with the fuel filter and drain any water out of the fuel. I'll let everyone what I come up with. Thanks.
