Hello, I have a 2002 F450 with 252K miles, I just drove it from California to Colorado and it runs gret exept when you first start it. Very low power, hardly gets out of it's own way. Once you drive it a while it runs great. Any ideas?

I'll bet your EBPV is closed and is not opening when you push the "go" pedal like it's supposed to.

There is a tube that runs from the front of the right exhaust manifold around the front to the Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor which is near the the HPOP reservoir.

If that tube is clogged or has a hole in it, the sensor will not sense an increase of exhaust pressure when the right foot is pushed down. If it doesn't detect that increase in back pressure, the PCM doesn't know it needs to open the EBPV.

A quick/temporary fix is to unplug the EBPV wire from the turbo pedestal. That will deactivate the EBPV and should restore some power when the engine is still cold.

That sounds possible. I went out and looked real quick but did not see the tube you were speaking of. Any helpful hint how to find it? Color, size, routing? I would love to take car of this. I just did ball joints today!

one end of the tube is on the passenger side exhaust manifold near the front..you can see it by looking inside the wheel well..the tube goes up to the sensor you can see in this pic.
