i got the esp for a number of reasons
we travle alot and its so much easier getting ford to fix stuff with thier warranty, than to call or get pre aproval from some other company, while sitting in a waiting room
got mine pretty cheap afew months after we bought the truck, cant remember off top of head but i think it was around 2k
On that note, some aftermarket companies also want to inspect the truck before repairs are done which can ad another couple days to your wait.

- These trucks are made to work. Standard gears tow 14K w/ 3:73 - srw I beleive. They are work horses. The trans or rear end that will fail will most likely be the contactor who's a slacker on maintenance, 5 different guys driving the truck and nobody giving a crap about it.
Most of us freaks here are maintenance nuts and major componant failures beyond the motor are not likely. Although your truck works hard pulling that weight, some bozo dragging a bobcat/backhoe or similar oin the city is much harder than you will ever be with your camper on the highways and secondary roads.
I think of it this way. I have had 8 new vehicles and have never had a rear end/ trans/ or other major componant fail. Most are kept well over 100K. If I had ESP on them that would have been ten of thousands of $ gone for nothing.
Think about your history with everything you've owned & think about the bigger picture? Would you be further ahead in $ if you had extended factory warranties on what you've owned??? Most would not be.
If you think about it in terms of 1 vehicle you/ or your salesman can always find a way to justify the ESP.
