Hey Zr1pete;
Very nice looking rig. :sweet
When we ordered our truck, we were thinking that it would outlast me, so it was important to us to keep coverage on this truck as long as we own it. What I am doing is putting $3,000 in a separate account, for truck repairs and letting the interest grow so when our truck is out of warranty in five years, we will have money set aside for an extended warranty. If we purchased the extended warranty know, and I died in say three years, I know my wife would sell the truck, so it would be a waste of money for us to do it now.
You might be young enough that it might not be an issue to you, but there are other situations that might arise that would be better to wait until your first warranty expires.
Just my two cents. .

Maxtor, what you did is what I wanted to do but Wife wouldn't let me leave there without the 5 year 100000 miles. Yes you are only getting 24 mo of warranty for that price. The truck is 23 mo's old and has 28500 on it now.
Pete, mine loaded and fueled up is 24500.
We are going to have to have a campers get together sometimes, somewhere.

Hi Maxtor, I bought my RV around the same time you bought yours....
like WD40 said, we'll have to go camping sometime.....

WD40, Yup that's heavy.... the truck doesn't seem to mind it though.

My truck runs out of the 3/36 this November, that's why I'm looking for the ESP at this time. I've decided to keep the truck longer so I just need a little peace of mind. Only have 26500 on the clock. So time will run out before mileage.
King Ranch leather still smells new....

i got the esp for a number of reasons
we travle alot and its so much easier getting ford to fix stuff with thier warranty, than to call or get pre aproval from some other company, while sitting in a waiting room
got mine pretty cheap afew months after we bought the truck, cant remember off top of head but i think it was around 2k

On that note, some aftermarket companies also want to inspect the truck before repairs are done which can ad another couple days to your wait.

another thought ;) - These trucks are made to work. Standard gears tow 14K w/ 3:73 - srw I beleive. They are work horses. The trans or rear end that will fail will most likely be the contactor who's a slacker on maintenance, 5 different guys driving the truck and nobody giving a crap about it.

Most of us freaks here are maintenance nuts and major componant failures beyond the motor are not likely. Although your truck works hard pulling that weight, some bozo dragging a bobcat/backhoe or similar oin the city is much harder than you will ever be with your camper on the highways and secondary roads.

I think of it this way. I have had 8 new vehicles and have never had a rear end/ trans/ or other major componant fail. Most are kept well over 100K. If I had ESP on them that would have been ten of thousands of $ gone for nothing.

Think about your history with everything you've owned & think about the bigger picture? Would you be further ahead in $ if you had extended factory warranties on what you've owned??? Most would not be.

If you think about it in terms of 1 vehicle you/ or your salesman can always find a way to justify the ESP.

Hi Pete;

WD lives in Arkansas and Texas. We live in Redding Ca. We are taking a two week camping trip to Orick Calif. in July. After my surgery, we will be going across the USA about April 2008. We plan on the first one week stay to be at the Grand Canyon. Maybe, you and WD could meet us there. Next one week stay will be in Fort Worth, then another one or two week stay will be in Branson Mo. Where are you going to be in April, May, June of 2008?
