ext. trans filter

Hey ya'll

I have a 06 , 6.0 and I have just hit 10'000 mi. and I changed the trans filter.
After I got it to the bench I cut it apart to see what kind of goodies it was catchen. I found a lot of grey matter came out when i squeezed it hard . This was not like shiny metal but it looked like bj weld that was thinned down in trans fluid . Dose this sound right ? The oil is pretty and red (clear, not milky ) I was concerned about the smell untill I opened a new qt., it smell preburnt . thanks for any help.

That should be gasket material that you are seeing in the filter. No metal is GOOD. It sounds like you are in Fine Shape, as far as I can tell.

Do all 06's have a tranny filter? I was crawling around under mine the other day and didn't see one...

10k filter change
little early
but the grey is stuff is the gunk its remving. nice little tight wound filter isnt it.
just did mine at 30 k and fluid looked clear and new.


and yes all 6.0 with the tq shift auto have two filters
one on the frame just behind the radiator passenger side and one inside the tranny pan
the internal is recommended to be never changed unless a cooler or torque convertor is changed.
the frame is a 30 k service inteval along with a pan drain and refill

I was just looking around the pan so that makes sense. I only have a few thousand miles on this so I've got some time until a change.
