A couple things to think about with stacks. Any backseat passengers will be miserable and maybe even the one in the front seat from the drone. You will have hot piping in your bed that you will need to keep cargo away from. You may need a way to keep rain/snow out of the stacks depending on which style you use.

I have never wanted stacks on a truck of mine for the reasons you say.

Do double stacks, they look so weird with single stack on them. All the points made about the stacks in the bed are true except for the droning and discomfort from the passengers. The cabs on our superduties are well made and are still pretty quiet. Yea there is a diff between the stock exhaust and if you put the full 4" turbo back with stacks on yer truck but its not that bad. I can really hear it with my window down and my extended cab window vented open. I just hear the whistling more. Def make sure you keep yer cargo tied down. Sucks when a trash bag gets away from me and hits the hot pipe. My truck is a shortbed and since its already short, I wasnt losin much bed space anyways. Thats what trailers are for. I get alot of compliments on my stacks, and the sound is so sweet. Wouldnt change it at all.

MBRP has their smokers kit which what I have. I was gonna get a 5" stack kit but MBRP doesnt make it. They only go 6" or bigger. They had a few other stack choices you could choose from. Grandrock makes a kit too. Def do it right and get Stainless. Yer already spendin alot on the exhaust, might as well pay more and get the good stuff so you dont have to do this again. Hardest part on installing my kit was havin to cut the old down pipe out. Other than that not bad. One thing to note on MBRP's kit, their stack clamps suck! They would bottom out pretty much before they were tight. You can upgrade clamps but more money.

Thanks for thw wisdom y'all! While we are on the topic of air, should I make a zoodad (I think that's what they're called) and look into a cold air intake? Can those intakes suck in water? Thanks

What kind/style intake air system do you have now ?

I did the Zoodad thing 120+K ago.. never had any Rain & Snow intrusion issues.. at all, with the AIS set-up..

Right now this thing is bone stock, I was just looking into some minor upgrades since I'm scared of tuners and chips. I was thinking Intake and exhaust for starters and I think I stumbled across the pictures of your zoodad mod, B Joe. I really don't know much of anything about diesels yet...

The stock 7.3 intake set-up leaves alot to be desired, as most will agree.

2 common options:

1. The Ford AIS, which consists of a larger intake snorkel and air box with a larger, more efficient air filter. Some (me) have cut a 3.5" hole in the air box.. then with fab'd up foam sleeve.. are able to draw even more air from the D-side fender well... if needed.

2. An open air system you can do your self.. or buy one. There are several available, but if you use the Search feature on SDD.. many have fabricated their own.

These things need massive amounts of Air. The stock stuff.. don't git it.

The DIY intake seems to be a popular choice. ALOT cheaper. If I was actually gonna buy a kit, I would go with the Ford AIS. K&N is junk on diesels. If you do the DIY, all you need is the airfilter from napa and like 6" of 4" diameter exhaust pipe. Makes a big diff.

Stroked68--Did you install the 4" down tube from the turbo? I have the 4" MBRP system, but didn't include the down pipe which would help reduce EGTs,improve power for towing and fuel mileage. If you can give me any help on this down pipe installation it would be greatly appreciated--should I try it or just pay the man at the muffler shop? THANKS!

Yea I did the full kit. Had the 4" down pipe. Its pretty easy to do. The hardest part of the whole install was actually cutting the old downpipe out cause thats the only way to get it out unless you drop the tranny cross member. The MBRP kit used the old hangers and lined up great. Very good product, I highly recommend them. I would get stainless.
