Finally turned my EBPV into a brake the other day and I love it:sweet I had read that you wouldnt feel much difference empty but I sure do. Might hafta go load up some cattle just to haul them around and check it out with a load!:lmao I made a new barcket for my trailer brake box that will hold the lights and switches so I wouldnt have to drill more holes in my dash. Just wanted to put this out there for anybody that had been thinking about doing it.

I read that all the time and just scratch my head. Mine will lock up the rear wheels unless the pavement is dry. When loaded or empty it will slow the truck right down. Great exhaust brake for a few bucks. I drive big trucks for a living and I can tell you that the EBPV wired up as a exhaust brake works as well in a pick-up as a Jake does in a big truck. Granted the Jake is holding back 100,000+ lbs where the EBPV is holding back 8,000-20,000lbs but they hold about the same respectively. I just shake my head when I see the "gut it" posts, if guys only knew what a great brake they were throwing away. I use mine all the time and know that it is extending the life of my brake pads at least 50%.

Xs 2 fer sure. ;tu

And because it's still a EBPV, just switch controled.. it's STILL great warm up aid, on cold mornings. I come down most Any mountain pass and Very seldom touch the breaks.. exsept for traffic. If I time it right.... NEVER, touch the brakes. 128K on the origonal pads.. over 70% left.

how hard is it to do this and what is the cost?

The kit I have was basicaly, Plug & Play, with good directions. Some wire trimming, depending on where you want the switch. Got mine off of Ebay several years ago. seems like it was 75-100 bucks.

Some on SDD have made their own DIY set-ups.. maybe someone will Chime in ?

I did mine with a set of directions from the diesel stop. I think this site or DG has a DIY instructions on the setup. My instructions said there was a problem with the torque converter lock up but I dont have that problem with my 6 speed:D. I got most of the stuff from radio shack with the part numbers provided in the right up and it cost like $30! I had the wire and wire ends. I made a new bracket for my brake box to include the switch and lights so I wouldnt have to drill more holes in the dash! If I wont on a computer at work I would get you a link to the instructions I had. Maybe this evening when I get home? Maybe by then someone else will have chimed in with the fix on the right up for the auto trans?

Here is a link to another set of directions for this mod because I'm not sure if this site has it. EBPV Exhaust Brake Take note that its for manual trans only. Maybe theres someone out there that has done this on a auto trans? I'm not sure if its possible to do this on the 6.0.

i think CSIPD knows most about this- hoping he might chime in.

This won;t work on the 6.0's because you have VVG turbo- variable vane geometry. the 6.0s need a custom tune to do it, but I don;t know if tony or jody do it. but with the tune, the PCM is not smart enough to know when to apply it.

the 7.3's have fixed blade geometry, and since YOU manually control the arm/disarm switch, it works.
