Well, at long last we bought this
Misctrucks007.jpg

I am going to switch it to vegetable oil hopefully in the next month. I read here http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/_import/pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/index3.html about wiring up the EBPV butterfly valve to make an exhaust brake. I don't plan on hauling hardly at all with this truck, certainly not enough to warrant an exhaust brake. But he does say that it helps with extra fast switchover, which I really want because I can switch off of diesel and onto vegetable oil as soon as my engine is to operating temp. The first 3 miles of my drive is on a little country road, where you can't go over 40 or so. Would an exhaust brake in the constantly "on" position help me warm up significantly faster? It may not help a bunch, but I like to tinker with things and being able to say I have one would be cool. Has anyone wired a DPDT ON/OFF/ON pushbutton switch into the gearshift?
Thanks. Can't wait to get under the hood of this truck! :D

I have a push on push off switch on my gear shift as well as a micro switch on my throttle wired in series so they have to both be on to activat my brake valve. This does aid in alot faster warmups especially if you have an auxillary idle control to set the idle up to 1200 or so after start up. in the winter (25deg or so) it only took about 5/6 minutes for mine to warm up to the N mark with this setup. were you planning on turning yours on while you are driving down the road at forty, cause you will have a hard time even getting it up to 40 with this turned on and it will make your egt's very high. I accidently had turned mine on with the cruise set at 70 once and it built alot of back pressure and sounded like someone shot about a half a can of either into the engine, and the pyro hit 1250 in about 4 seconds. only did that once.

whoa, I did not even notice that the wheels were different. Had to run out an check, the fronts match each other and the rears match each other. I'll just blame it on the previous owner... they managed to lose the spare tire. At least they left the tailgate for me. And they did take very good care of it, I have ALL records up to 80K, when it switched owners. It has 136K now.
I would have the exhaust brake on when I start up, and keep it on until I get to the interstate, unless I'm in a hurry.

Nice truck :sweet I like the color

You cannot leave the ebpv shut when you are on the throttle. It can only be used at idle, high idle or when decelerating. If you try and accelerate with it shut you will build too much heat and it will hardly run..

Ok, that answers my question. The exhaust brake in the closed position will only help with a fast warmup AT IDLE. Not while driving. I don't think I'll bother, although it would be fun.
