Saw one over the weekend that was really tweaked on the passenger side that didn't deploy air bags either. Superduty's are also guilty. The farrier who shoe's our horses totaled his 2000 dually several years ago and the bags never came out. And this thing had the engine right into the firewall.

the engine was in the firewall, but how fast did it get there? it takes a really big hit to make them go off, especially in a larger vehicle. i have seen class 8 trucks come in with wrecked framerails, and the bags never popped.

I think it has to do with the weight in the seat. If the sensor does not read the weight in the seat the unit does not go off. Think of it as if a small kid was sitting in the seat you would not want the air bags to go off because it could kill the child. The sensors are in the lower back bottom seat the unit is yellow and clip to the seat frame. If you hit something and you slid forwarded in your seat it would not go off. It's a stupit set up ford has.
