Had recently purchased a 2000 f-350 7.3L turbo with the crew cab and long bed that had had the exaust pulled off just past the back of the cab, no muffler, cat. cov.,exaust tips. it's registered in FL. so i'm not worried about the cat. con. but after looking on line I'm not sure what to get. IS it wort it to put a five In. exaust in a truck? how abot a 4 In? or just stick with the 3.5 that it has? If i do upgrade to larger pipes what kind of problems am i going to run into installing them? and should i bother doing a turbo back or just a cat back system? ultimatly I'd like to gain some proformance out of this if i can and want the exaust toned down (DEEP) as far as possible. Any imput on mufflers and/or kits and who might have them would be greatly appriciated...

The 7.3s didn't have cats anyway, so there is no problem at all there.

Obviously, the more pipe you have, the more it will quiet it down. If you are mainly worried about hearing the exhaust in the cab, put your dump on the passenger side to the tail of the bed.

I put a 4" MBRP off-road turbo back on my 6.0l. It does have the muffler on it for now at least. It keeps it fairly quiet untill you tromp it...it does talk a bit more then. But as far as just going along, it's fairly mild. It did help performance some, but the biggest improvement was lowering the EGTs.

I think most would agree that you probably wouldn't see any benifit from a 5" system over a 4" on a stock, or fairly stock engine. The larger pipe size does help, but probably the most important advantage going from the stock system to an aftermarket is the better flowing bends on the aftermarket system.

I can't speak for the other exhausts, but the MBRP is really a fairly simple install. It fit great, absolutely no issues there. It was quite tight on the down pipe, but it still fit good, there just isn't much room to begin with.

for deeper tone, you will want longer pipe and bigger diameter.

for performance, i say dont bother going bigger than 4" its not going to help you.

a lot of people use mbrp, i think they have the best value compared to other companies that think their sticker is worth an extra $500.

I bought the 4" turbo back from Summit racing. Mandrel bent and real easy install. I am VERY happy with the results. I paid, I think, $295 for it. Made a big difference in performance. I am using the muffler that came with the system as well. You can really hear the turbo now. I would rather drive with the window down instead of listening to the stereo! I think Summit has one of the best values going with the system. Just my opinion of course......

Some 7.3's did have CATs, mainly hand shakers, but was just a year or so and I think
was 2000's.

Muffler is 3-inch pipes, so just cutting it out will get you 85% of a 4-inch system...

If you mod teh truck, you will wont 4-inch... 5-inch of you go for hugh injectors
and completely modified truck, most wont need it..

My 2002 with a six speed had a cat when I got it. Poor thing ran away from home though. Ford dealer told me my truck was a 50 state legal truck and that is why it had a cat. Don't know if this is true or not.

I have a diamond eye. Pretty good system for the price. Sounds good too. I'd go with 4". Like most guys said, you won't notice a real big difference between 4" and 5". If anything, you torque numbers might drop a very little bit with the 5". Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
