Ever since we took my new boat out to the lake, it was very evident that it needed a power trim unit for the motor badly. As is, without a power trim and with the aluminum ski prop, it'd only do about 40. With a power trim and a stainless prop, it'll top 50 easy.
For several days now, we've been doing a nation wide internet search for a power trim unit that would fit a 35 year old Evinrude. Not an easy task.
Well, just a little while ago, my son called. Due to the extreme difficulty in finding a power trim unit for the 1974 Evinrude 85, this weekend he is going to look at a 1979 Evinrude 115 complete with power trim for $700. Even if the compression is bad, we can over haul it for not a whole lot. He even knows someone who can bore & hone cylinders for cheap.
