Hey gents. I appreciate the level of knowledge I'm gaining from reading the posts on the forum. I'm new to the diesel world and still not sure of what is and isn't a good idea. I have been reading about different engine programmers and monitors. I see alot of you monitoring EGT and Trans temps and several other things during long hauls. So I'm now curious about the warrnaty. Does using a scanner void the warranty. On my old gas engine I had an Edge Evolution and it stores the stock program and can return the engine to stock if necessary. I was told that before having any work done on my old truck to return it to stock and reset everything, that way the reader didn't show an after market tune. I'm looking at the Edge Evolution CTS2 for my 2016 F250 6.7L.
That being said,
Q1. Anyone using one?
Q2. Are the gains real and worth it?
Q3. Does the warranty become void, and can they tell if a program has been used and returned to stock?

Then of course any other information anyone wishes to offer is appreciated as always.

Technically the tuner can void your power train warranty. The way to look at it is as soon as you change it from the factory it's no longer in the factory parameters and tolerances. Now if you use a tuner and the rear end breaks chances are they're not going to say anything. But if the turbo goes out or a piston gets a hole then they could void the warranty. I know on the 2011 up Mustangs and Focus they can tell if the car has been tuned. I'd imagine the trucks have similar software.

Let's be honest, is it fair that Ford covers your broken parts because you wanted a little extra power? And while I haven't towed anything like most of these guys, I can't see the need for a tuner. 860ft-lbs gets my boat over the mountains pretty easily.

Nowadays tuners leave a trace in all vehicles. They can scan it to find out.

Are the gains worth it? For the most part. But mainly when doing deletes.
Get custom tuning though.

I have a EDGE CTS-2 Monitor, just the Monitor, No tunes.

I did a Face to Face with my Dealer's Service Manager before I installed it. He said: As long as you are just monitoring engine drivetrain parameters.. Ford [probably] wouldn't care... if you had an issue with your truck. BUT.. if you add Tunes, Ford has the "Gear" to see, and tell, if you have Pumped Up your truck.

Now.. That's just one Service Manager, but I felt confident enough in his answer.. too install it.

425 HP, and 800+ pounds of torque is enough for me and our 5r.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not wanting to put a power tune or gain HP. I agree with yeller. I don't pull anything that heavy. I'm more only interested in the economy tunes and increasing fuel economy more than anything. Joe, what you did sounds like a good idea. I'll get in touch with the dealer and ask some questions to confirm. Thanks fellas.

On the Good, Better, Best scale.. a Face to Face is BEST. There's something about Eye Contact.. in the Service Managers Office ?

Phone calls tend to produce Lip Service ? ;tu

Actually, what your service manager says holds little sway with FORD corporate...

Now he MAY be able to buffer you a bit when that rear end goes out, but Ford will insist on proof of the need for repair and one of the bits is a scan of engine parameters ...
when they see that the hp and torque or out of range (and they will) your whole truck will be flagged in their systems and warranty claims will be 'problematic' no matter WHAT the Magnumm-Moss act says - all ford has to say is "No soup for you!" and you have to go get an attorney and fight in court... meanwhile your truck is down...

So my opinion of tuning ?
If you can't pay, you shouldn't play !

(But I've tuned every truck I've owned and most gas vehicles :) if 800lbft is great, 1000 is betta !)

If you want more MPGs you will have to delete everything and Tune it. It will void your warranty but its better for your trucks health if you dont beat it all the time. Im going to delete asap.

I would guess it also depends on what you consider good mileage. I've seen 20mpg on long trips. And since passing the 15k mile mark I routinely see 14mpg around town. My last was my worst at 12mpg because it tried to regen 3 times. And I tend to drive my truck how I drive my Cobra. Showed a little Subaru that it can't mess with big trucks just last night. So I think my truck gets good mileage and it's 100% stock.

I used to get 19-20 mpg on the highway on long trips and 15.5 mpg around town. Now that I have new rims, wider mud tires, and a level kit I get about 16.5 mpg on long trips and 13.2 mpg around town:(. I am also seeing regens every couple days lately. I hope to pick up a couple once its allowed to breath.
