Well it finally is DOA. On the road; stopped running in the middle of the road. Glad my wife wasn't driving it. It has been cold here. I had the engine block heater plugged in say two hours. Started ok: warmed up maybe 5-10 minutes started driving up the road it began sputtering and running extremely rough then died. If it is the cam sensor I sure wish Ford would of let me know. I checked on the Ford site and certain Ford vehicle at certain plants are under the "voluntary recall" I put my VIN# in their data base and it is under the recall so I was in the process of going to my appt to have it checked out. Murphy's Law was with me. Not happy with Ford considering my trans blew up 6 months ago. If the truck is not completely warmed up could it be the sensor? :rant

Sounds like another CPS failure to me. Warm or Cold, makes no Dif. As you know, Ford will replace it for free. Often, they will restart.. maybe you could "Limp" it to Ford ?

Your call but.. While you're there, you might consider buying a Spare. The New & Improved CPS (Grey one) is supposed to fix the problem but I carry a spare, just in case.

It's an easy DIY fix too. :dunno

Need a little more info, like year and engine. CPS could be the culprit.

It is an 01 7.3. Yeah it sounds like the cps. Call the dealer up I thought I read that they were helping offset some poeples cost of having to have their's replaced. If that is the problem they may tow it for free.

Here's the info

2001 Superduty 4x4 F-250 7.3. I had the Cam Sensor replaced about a year ago. I am guessing it is the black one. I will definetely buy a back-up just in case it happens again.

I am wondering is this a recall for safety? Because if it is the Cam sensor we have been in situations where it was quite dangerous. If so, why wasn't there a letter put out to those who are covered?

I talked to my Dealer about notification. He said Ford is supposed to be in the process of notifying all concerned with this but :dunno

DANGEROUS ? If it failed ? I certainly agree..

They are hitting it pretty hard. I got the CPS notice on trucks I haven't owned for years. I would have to guess IH is mailing them out for medium duties they have sold with that same propblem.

how cold has it been? sounds more like fuel gelling not cps not that a cps failure would cause the same symptom but sounds like fuel starvation.
