On my way home from work this afternoon i was crusing along at at highway speed 65-70 mph and my truck cut out. It did not completely die, but the instrument cluster flashed on and the engine cut out (i could hear that) and then it "restarted" and i kept going. It did this 2 times in a matter of 3-4 minutes. I drove for another 15 minutes to get home and it ran the rest of the way home. WTF??? Any ideas? From what i was told the previous owner had the CPS replaced about 10-20k ago.

Thanks,
Tim

My truck has done a similar thing a few times in the last couple of weeks. My replacement CPS will be here tomorrow. I am not convinced that my problem is not electrical. Mine dies when I do something like run the winshield wipers/wash, have the bright lights on, and have two cell phones charging at the same time...while trying to nail the throttle.

Make sure the Chip is in good. You might pull it out and clean the contacts and reinstall it. Some times a CPS will go out again in 20K miles.

When the truck cut-off i had steady pressure on the fuel pedal, going 65-70 mph steadily for the previous 5 minutes or so. I wasnt accelerating hard, or doing anything really different or make any changes or flip any switches or anything like that. It was like the engine cut off and the rpm's went down a few hundred rpms and then it fired back up. It was fine for 30-60 seconds then it did the same thing again and was fine after that for the remainder of the ride home.

I think i'm going to go ahead and buy that AutoEnginuity code reader i've been hinting to santa that i wanted for christmas this year. And i guess i should atleast buy a new cps and keep it as a spare if it ends up not being the problem this time.

Any other ideas?? Oh, and where exactly would the chip be plugged into at so i can clean the contacts. Never even seen it yet or even looked for it.

Thanks,
Tim

scan it for codes, but most likely, you're gonna see a CPS code...

get two new ones, put one in the engine, throw the other in the glovebox along with a socket and ratchet handle...

I had a the same thing happen to me (the engine missed a few beats but kept running, it did this several times) two days later the engine completely quit and wouldnot restart. It threw codes for the CPS sensor. Now I keep a spare sensor in the glove box with the tools to change it! I have had 2 sensors go within a 20k period.

Ordered a autoengiunity code reader yesterday.

On the way to work this morning i warmed up the truck for about 10 minutes then left for work. About 1-2 miles later the truck completely shut off. When i tried to restart it the "wait to start" light did not come on. I tried to start it for the next 3-4 minutes and the "wait to start" light finally came on and it started. The check engine light was now on and it seemed to be running ok. I turned around and headed back home to switch vehicles and it died before i got back home it died again. Same deal the "wait to start" light didnt come on when i tried to start it. About 2-3 minutes later it came on and the truck started up again. So i continued on my way home and within 1/2 block of home it died again. So i coasted into the front yard and that's where it's parked now.

The truck died 3 times in a matter of only 1 mile and about 20 minutes. Is this a sign that the cps is going bad? I plan on stopping by the local international dealer and buying a new cps and i will change that out tonight or tomorrow. Would the ICP sensor be bad too, and is it recommended that i replace it at the same time?? And i did not get a chance to pull the performance chip i have on the truck last night. I was too busy reasearching on the forum last night.
