Not sure about any serial numbers. The only real way is to look through the inspection hole like on DI's sight. You can see just fine with a flashlight. Familiarizing yourself with what to look for helps.
The changeover happened somewhere around 09/00 and 10/00 vehicle build dates, can't remember, been a couple years. A program called Prosis used by machine shops calls for different rod bolt torquing after a certain build date. It also notes they are only repairable by oversized OD rod bearings because of the cracked cap design, the rod bolt is the easiest way to tell. Some people have reported mixed sets around the date. My truck was first titled in 10/01 with 18 miles, it has PMR's
Just grind down an extension to fit in the plug, stick your head up there and look with a flashlight. It's worth knowing for sure IMO.
