jourdan- the california trucks had cat's before the rest of us.
if his has a california emissions sticker on the truck, it may be graded on a different scale.
remember, emissions stuff is federal, not state. tampering with the emissions components is prohibited regardless of the state
*When I bought my 2K (BD 10-99), in March of 2K, in California.. It did Not have, and wasn't required to have.. a Cat. But as "they" started to tighten up on diesel emissions.. That changed.
IIRC, After an X date (in 02 ?) ALL vehicles, Nation wide, had to meet the same emission standards that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) had been mandating in Caly for years... Whala.. No more Texas truck, Oregon truck, Florida truck, Caly truck etc.
Ok when I say my truck didn't come with a cat I ment when I bought it but I got it used, the exhuast on it looks factory but how would I find out if it came factory with it and the company I bought from don't have records showing exhuast work other than the muffler being cut off, I do know it was sold from the dealer in oklahoma. New in late 99
*I REALLY don't think yer 2K >has< to have a Cat Chris.
bears- is there a sticker on the drivers door jamb that says anything about CARB compliant or California emmisions? read it carefully. it may even say that this truck is NOT CARB complaint or was not meant to be in a goofy way. kinda like the ambulance package sticker.
my 2000 did NOT have a cat on it and i KNOW that it did not have one.
EDIT: iirc, it was late 2002 or 2003 when they put the cat's on the 7.3. somewhere out there i know is a web page that chronicles it. it might have coincided with the powdered metal rods?
* I think yer right dp.
as far as mufflers go, the Walker BTM is a straight pipe glass pack and counts! DAMHIKT
Look under the front lip of the hood.. mine has a sticker saying: Model Year 2000 emmisions complyant.. bla, bla, bla.. NON Catylist
