jourdan- the california trucks had cat's before the rest of us.

if his has a california emissions sticker on the truck, it may be graded on a different scale.

remember, emissions stuff is federal, not state. tampering with the emissions components is prohibited regardless of the state

*When I bought my 2K (BD 10-99), in March of 2K, in California.. It did Not have, and wasn't required to have.. a Cat. But as "they" started to tighten up on diesel emissions.. That changed.

IIRC, After an X date (in 02 ?) ALL vehicles, Nation wide, had to meet the same emission standards that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) had been mandating in Caly for years... Whala.. No more Texas truck, Oregon truck, Florida truck, Caly truck etc.

Ok when I say my truck didn't come with a cat I ment when I bought it but I got it used, the exhuast on it looks factory but how would I find out if it came factory with it and the company I bought from don't have records showing exhuast work other than the muffler being cut off, I do know it was sold from the dealer in oklahoma. New in late 99

*I REALLY don't think yer 2K >has< to have a Cat Chris.

bears- is there a sticker on the drivers door jamb that says anything about CARB compliant or California emmisions? read it carefully. it may even say that this truck is NOT CARB complaint or was not meant to be in a goofy way. kinda like the ambulance package sticker.

my 2000 did NOT have a cat on it and i KNOW that it did not have one.

EDIT: iirc, it was late 2002 or 2003 when they put the cat's on the 7.3. somewhere out there i know is a web page that chronicles it. it might have coincided with the powdered metal rods?

* I think yer right dp.

as far as mufflers go, the Walker BTM is a straight pipe glass pack and counts! DAMHIKT

Look under the front lip of the hood.. mine has a sticker saying: Model Year 2000 emmisions complyant.. bla, bla, bla.. NON Catylist

mine was built 11/01 (so an early 2002 i guess) and all it came with is a muffler...

IIRC, the had them on there, took them off at some point, and then started putting them back on again...

joe- i think it is more the case of ignorant REPRESENTATIVES of those agencies.

back to bears issues- he was lacking a muffler and they tagged him for that. i understand him saying that he fixed the muffler issue. its not clear if he put a CAT on or not.

where is your sticker? any chance you could post a picture of it. i wonder if there is a part number on it. i looked under the hood on my 2000 and did not see anything. i have stickers on the sloping part of the grill support: one is for coolant and air bags, the other is for belts and fuel pump shut off.

I don't do good with Pics dp.. But Here's what it sez.. Verbatim:

[This vehicle is equipped with electronic engine control systems. For additional engine information and emission certification standards see the Important Engine Information Decal.]

[This vehicle conforms to California regulations applicable to 2000 model year LEV medium-Duty vehicles with diesel engines for sale in California, and with U.S. EPA regulations. HSC 39037.05 Low-Emissions.]

[OBD II certified].

[GFD] [NON-CATYLIST]

This sticker is just to left of center, under the hood, near the hood latch. The referenced decal is on the P-side valve cover.

Maybe it's a "California truck" thing :dunno from back in the day :dunno

walker btm or napa equivalent for the pipe size. its a flow through glass pack. darned near as straight a pipe as you are going to get. look at the pictures or inside of one and you will understand.

p/n 21464 is a resonator

p/n 21470 is 3.5" in and out

p/n 21471 is 4" in and out
