Batteries look good on the truck, I wonder what could be the problem. As soon as I get at about 1400 rpms the battery light comes on.

No, I haven't checked it. Forgive me but how would I go about doing that without taking it somewhere?

Jimmy i dont know if they can COMPLETELY test it while its
still mounted to the truck...BUT...the local auto parts place
should be able to BENCH test it for output.

i know autozone does it, maybe others too.

do you have the single or dual alternator ?

also you say the batteries LOOK good...have you tested 'em ?
autozone etc can test them too...if they need replacement REPLACE
THEM BOTH.

Second that... don't go el cheapo and only do one. My dad did that years ago only to be left stranded a second time. Amazingly, the second battery showed up!

Had to get a new alternator and went ahead and got 2 new batteries. Set me back $460 but maybe I won't have any more problems. It seems early for my truck to have a bad alternator to me but I don't know.

Jimmy where do you live, how many miles on your truck...have you
had a recent cold snap ? to you tow a trailer / charge trailer batteries...
ALL of these things (not to mention any additional load like a multi
amp sound system) will impact the life of the alternator and possibly
the batteries.

I live in south GA so we don't really get cold snaps, but it did get cooler(if you call hi 80's and low 60's cooler). I don't tow anything or have a fancy amp or sound system but I bought the truck used last year with 42,000 miles on it. I have no idea what the previous owner did because I purchased it at an auction. I have put around 20,000 road miles on it since I bought but I baby the truck.
