I have had this problem for quite some time. My fuel gage decided to stop working correctly about six months ago. Most of the time it stays at empty or below especially when I fill the truck up: my other gages work fine. Sometimes the fuel gage works. I had the sending unit in the tank checked out and it works fine, including checking to make sure there is power between it and the gage. Anyone have any ideas? If I have to change the gage I am guessing I have to change all the gages and how much of a headache is to replace them? The gages are expensive to buy through Ford. Thanks. :dunno Tim

I would bet a loose pin in the gauge bucket.. you're going to have to pull the instrument cluster to check..
time consuming but not all that difficult..

Yeah, I just acquired a similar problem. The other day I was driving my diesel Excursion and noticed I was at about 3/4 of a tank. Plus I always keep track of my mileage every fill up. Well I got to where I was going and then on my way home I noticed the gauge said full. Well I put close to 300 miles on it and it is still saying full. I'm guessing it is the sending unit. I am going to fill the truck up this morning maybe it is stuck. I don't know how they work but I hope it's not hard to change. I think changing the sending unit would be easier than pulling the dash apart. Any ideas would help and how you made out with your situation would give me some insight. Thanks in advance.
