The dealer will not give you the warranteed part back. They have to turn it in to Ford for them to collect their money. It sounds like the EGR and.or the EBP (Exhaust Back Pressure sensor).

I unplugged my EGR valve (I think) (passenger valve cover?) and my problem dissappeared! But the mileage might be a little lower. But since it took care of the sluggishness... my foot has been in it more!

sounds like you unpluged something else...the EGR is at the top
of the engine/FRONT CENTER...Item #1 in the lower PHOTO on

Here's a strange one. I pluged my egr connection into a dummy vlave, trying to clean up the air in my system, but my 05 threw a P0401 code. I though plugging into another EGR valve would keep it from throwing the Check Engine light - no such luck. Oh well, there's $60 down the drain!...SteveA

Its not a SINGLE device functioning...the EGR is "commanded"
to do things by other devices (vgt & ebp)...the THREE devices
work together...

if the EGR changes position and the ebp or vgt doesnt detect
a change based on the egr's change i SUSPECT it could trip
a code (no differently than a valve thats not functioning).

this stuff is very complicated, and i certainly dont know how it
all works (wish ford doctor were here) but unless you were involved
in the programing i doubt anyone will really know the exact details.
