EGR valve failed, What other damage

Ok, the check engine light came on while pulling bails on our goose neck, 12000 lbs, just as we came in the yard. Checked every thing over, fluids leaks..., nothing but the engine didn't sound right. Off to the dealer she went and it was a failed EGR Valve, valves replaced and every thing is good again. But what other damage could have happened and what should I look out for.

NADA,, it happens all the time ,, when they fail in the open position it just lets exhaust pass constantly into the fresh air intake ,,
