EGR Removal

i was going to clean my egr valve and was wondering if there was another way of getting it out or if you had to have one of the removal tools and if so where can i get one thanks-cody

remove the two bolts, turn the egr valve 1/4 turn, loop some wire thru
the bolt hole ears and pull up...

i connect the loop of wire together and then use a long pry bar (some
use broom handles)...i thread the bar thru the loop of wire and
leverage one end on something (that wont break)...with a little pressure
(UP) on the bar & loop of wire the egr should come out pretty easily.

you should becareful not to get any soot/dirt or liquid cleaner in the
VENT HOLES on the bottom of the motor/actuator...i tape the base of
mine off.

change the o-rings & graphite base gasket (7 bucks for the 2 o-rings &
gasket kit) Ford part number 3C3Z-9P455-AB

Is there an interval for cleaning these things? My truck has 53,000mi on her, wondering if I should clean mine?

just got finished up thanks for the tips. it was pretty dirty. mine is right at 60,000 60,001 to be exact about to make a trip to georgia so just doin a little pm before the trip-cody

in a word...it DEPENDS....if you idle alot youll need to check it more
often. ive cleaned mine about every 25k and dont see alot of
soot build up.

Thanks, Bush, I do have alot of idle time on it. I have the idle up switch thing done, but I leave it running for the wife and kid...
