NO, They are different animals! Do NOT think of them in the same paragraph. Oil coolers cool oil. EGR coolers cool the Exhaust Gas that gets recirculated through the engine. You need to do some reading on these engines and you can start here: FDDTS - Articles

Ill just follow up w/ an important point regarding the 6.0L...
the oil cooler uses COOLANT to cool the oil...as does the egr cooler.

I want to eliminate the egr on my truck...but as you posted earlier, it can cause a domino effect on other sensors, etc...so I'll let mine run. Also would like to put a programmer on mine, but again am scared of what "could" happen.

dont know how that could be, and ive never seen ANY evidence of
that !

a malfunctioning egr VALVE will cause some drivablity issues (erratic
boost & marginally higher egt's) but i doubt it would cause over heating
or over pressurization to the point of blowing a head gasket.
