Ford/Navistar believe that fuel quality is a big cause for EGR problems. Take a look at this PDF below. Additives could help the poor quality fuel we currently see at the pump.

well as i said in another thread...that advert is a JOKE...comparing a
CLEAN egr valve w/ a "dirty" one...

show me TWO used valves, driven for the same miles and same amount
of idling (as little as possible, please)...one using the additive one
not...then youll have something.

oh and make the advert independant, not from someone trying to
sell crap !

NO ADDITIVE is gonna keep your egr valve as clean as a new one !

Anyone that buys off on that advert has never pulled an egr valve
outta their engine !

Agreed... its' like the STP commercials... any independents that check that junk say the same thing... doesn't do squat.

Speaking of biodiesel, is there a site that shows where the stuff is available? I live in western PA, and as far as I know, no one around here sells it. Suggestions?

Thats not the claim. How many 6.0s have you worked on? Maybe yours only? How many EGR valves and intakes have you removed and cleaned? I have seen quite a few. Buy a different brand or just buy 45+ cetane fuel. The idea is that low cetane fuel causes the problem. Anyone that knows anything about EGR knows that a valve will get dirty. Maybe you should get a little more information before you smack down something that may help a problem.

Do you see me advertising my employer here? I virtually have nothing to gain by posting this.

If you are so hellbent on downing Ford then why did you buy one?

Well I have 2 cents here.
I have run only 47 cetane fuel, from BP, with power service in the white bottle for winter months, My truck does not idle more than 1 minute at start up. 99.9% I get in and hammer down, the cool down for the turbo that I do is I let the truck kinda idle back before I get to where I am going, If I can and let the truck coast to a stop then, Depending on how hard i have driven the truck to that point I let it idle to cool down the turbo a few minutes.

My EGR was as dirty as the one in the picture. I cleaned and reinstalled.
This was done at 50,000 miles.:dunno

Thanks guys! Baum Blvd is my closest, but it's pretty much in the ghetto outside of oakland. I'll get a jug or two worth and do the premix thing and go from there.

Thanks again
