I have been looking to replace my EGR cooler. Looking on Ebay I noticed that the 6.0L EGR coolers have dates. Do I want the coolers manufactured after 2004?

I am understanding that I want the one with the round tubes without fins.

Input??

Are you loosing coolant?if the egr cooler is leaking the oil cooler also needs to be replaced because that is whats killing the egr cooler.

The coolant that I am losing is from the bottle cap, i.e. over pressure/temperature, because I can see it all over the side of engine under the bottle. At first I thought that I had a crack in the bottle itself, but no.

Can you explain why I would have to replace the oil cooler too???

Thanks

If you are loosing coolant from the bottle, this doesn't mean that you have EGR cooler failure.

Do you have white smoke coming out of your exhaust? This is usually a good sign that you have an EGR cooler issue.

With what you are describing, it sounds like you are having possible head gasket failure. When it starts puking coolant out the bottle, look out.

Make sure your coolant bottle has been the new label marking the corrected coolant levels for the bottle. There is quite a difference and running too far over the MIN line could cause you to puke. Ford released a new overflow bottle cap that is like $7 from the dealer. I was lucky and the new cap stopped my "puking".

If you still have problems with puking at the bottle try to determine what you were doing when it happened and post up.

Okay then, I replaced the EGR today and the engine seems to run better. I also noticed that the coolant bottle has a crack in two spots and the coolant was spraying out. I replaced the bottle (which has the correct level indicator) from Ford ($68.00) and now the liquid is staying at the correct level.

The EGR cooler seems to be working correctly too.
