hello, i was wondering if anyone knows if there are supose to be spacers in the center mouting hole between the hitch bracket and the frame? my hitch cracked and i'm wondering if it's due to these spacers?

It looks like it would have cracked sooner without the spacer. The spacer appears to give the hitch 3 solid & level attachment points. Without it, there would have been a gap in between the hitch & frame on bolt #2.

If anything I would say there wasn't enough spacer.

It looks to me like the rear bolt is a little loose on pic #2 judging by the rust spot around the washer.

I don't have spacers but my hitch is different than that one. Where yours has tabs mine is just bent-over the full length. I would agree that it appears that there was not enough spacers and the tab was pulled up stressing it. I will go take a picture of mine for comparison.

What are you towing?

Here is a picture of mine. It is formed to fit the frame. I think you may have a aftermarket receiver. My bumper mounts seem different too as the go down below the frame a little where yours are straight back? I would think a 96' would be like a 96' but they seem to be different.

This is the left side where your pics are of the right:

A 94 F250 that I rebuilt had spacers between the frame and the hitch. It was a hidden hitch (to which I hate). I purchased a Draw-tite and that hitch didn't need spacers becase it was like crumm's.

well, the only thing i can figure on the frames not being identical is that my truck reads miles in kilometers and is stamped "made in Canada".

i'll try adding a bit more gap filler in there and hope it dosn't snap it again... unless anyone knows of a better solution?

What are you towing? If you are towing anything with some weight to it I would upgrade to a stouter hitch.
