I am really trying not to order this with out the wife's permission, so I need a little help.

I have searched but wanted to ask to get a better answer.

On the econo mod, approx have much of a mpg increase can be obtained through normal driving? I read somewhere between 3-5. Has this been your experience?

I'm trying to figure out at what point the mpg benefit will pay for the chip itself.

Setting I have chosen are, in order: security, stock, 80 econo, 60 tow, 120 race, high idle.

Also, does the stock program just use the computer in the truck, or is it on the chip itself? Possibly a better stock than already in the truck?

Thanks for the help.

It is a stock setting on the chip, no better really.

Dont look at a chip to pay for itself in fuel savings, it never works out. Get it because the truck will run better, sound better, drive better, but MPG is just a dissapoinment...

1 mpg increase is what I saw in the econo setting...you may get more, if you can stay out of the throttle on the other settings!!!

That is about what I saw.

But consistantly realizing that mpg increase is hard to do because the increased fun factor makes it very hard to keep one's right foot "restrained".

Diesel Power Magazine did an article on MPG. They put a connecting rod under the go pedal. The hardest thing to do in the truck once you start to mod it is keep your foot out of it. I found that out tonight after driving the truck with the new injectors. My "old" light throttle launched me down the street and sideways (it was raining). Now I have to re-calibrate. When driving the Jetta(daily) I always ease into it and I can gain mpg. Slow and steady wins the MPG race. Don't forget, you are driving a 7500+lbs truck!

Gotta agree that a chip will never pay for itself in mpg savings. If your wife needs us to lie for you to get one...then that's another story. :D

Thanks for the replies. The answers were what I really expected, especially since once you add the fun factor, mpg will be mute.

But, if you would like to lie for me, that would be appreciated :sly

OK, here goes: :laugh1

Not only did my DP-Tuner chip give me another 10mpg around town, but I got another 250hp to boot. The best thing about the DP-Tuner chip is that it vacumes the house, does the dishes & the laundry, and takes the wife out to dinner & dancing every weekend too!:goodluck :tounge

Realize too that the chip means you will have to spend money on gauges and tranny mods. Its not just the price of the chip, its a lot more than that. The added stress will start bringing other problems to the surface too. Just be ready for that:sweet

You'll love it though. The difference is enormous.

But all of that is secondary to picking up the kids from practice. Stopping to get milk, ironing the clothes, and keeping her car clean as well!
