Friend of mine has a 97 PSD and wants to put a new Down Pipe on. He has heard rumors that you have to beat in the fire wall in order to get the DP to fit. I know that you use to have to do this but I thought that I heard something somewere that they had a new DP that would fit into place without having the beat in the fire wall. Thanks for the info.:thanks

The DPPI downpipe is supposed to do exactly that (there may be others as well), but it varies from truck to truck whether that actually happens. Some trucks have the engine sitting slightly farther back necessitating bending of the firewall lip anyway. I have a DPPI pipe and I still bent the lip to provide clearance. It's not a hard job though. Cheers!

Getting the old pipe out is ALOT bigger pita than clearancing for any new pipe, dppi or not. I stuck a jack under the tranny and pulled the crossmember in leiu of the sawzall method and still had to cram the pipe up and cut the cobra head off to get it out that way.

If you pulled the cross member and raised the cab and front clip off its mounts you should be able to pull it whole, but then the sawzall method is faster than all that.

i had to cut and bend the lip out of the way on mine, but it looked like if you had a body lift in it would have cleared fine

Thanks for all the feed back. I'll let him know, but the way that it sounds now. Looks like I am going to be doing the install myself in the driveway. Looks like this is going to be fun. Again thanks for the replys.

It took a whiz wheel to cut the top of the old DP to get it out. The new DP from DPPI is 2 peice and it is pretty easy to install. Tell him to do the DP and exhaust system all at once its easier that way!

I used a sawzall and porta power . I was apprehensive at first but it went smoothly. Just know that if the DP is touching the firewall even the slightest bit you will hear and feel it in the cab.
