We were coming back from a weekend of camping this morning and on the CA S2 highway going towards Ocotillo we saw the Highway Patrol and a Sheriff going the otherway with lights on and siren blasting. We stopped for breakfast and had just started eating when the resturant's owner came in, mad as hell and said that an illegal had grabbed her truck while she left it idling with the A/C on when she went into the off road parts place. She then got a cell phone call saying they had caught the guy up the S2 about 15 miles and her truck was just fine. She was a bit happier but I'll bet she won't do that again!!?? Oh yeah, it was an F150 not a Powerstroke, but it was her baby!

a GOOD 2 way paging alarm would have allowed her to
keep the truck running, pull the key out, lock the truck AND arm
the ALARM...

even if she DIDNT arm & lock the truck as soon as the "illegal"
got in and stepped on the brake (to pull it outta park) the truck
would have shut off.

Good saying bush.

That sucks for that women. What is it world coming to when you can't leave your truck running when you go in somewere. That is what I like about the small town up here. People still know what others drive and keep and I on them. If I am running some were quick and I know that I am going to be really quick I will bring my alarm with me (The Dog). Had the windows cracked one when had to run to the store and somebody came to look inside of my truck. Dog didn't let that happen. The man told me that if my dog had bit him he would have sued me. I laught and replied stay out of other peoples property and you wouldn't have to worry about it.:D

a 2way alarm provides CONFIRMATION that commands were sent AND
recv'd...that is to say when you TELL the truck to start (via the remote)
the truck sends back a signal that the its rev'd the command.

this works for SHUTTING down too (either by timer or remote) after
youve left the truck...you want to truck to cool down...and it would
be nice to know that the truck actually shut off (either when you told it
to or when the time alloted happens)

w/ a conventional one way alarm remote/fob you send the command (to start)
and you can only hope & wonder that when you go out to the truck that
its actually running.

2way allows for confirmation that the commands were recv'd....and what the
status currently is...so if for some reason the truck shuts down or doesnt lock
or unlocks...youll know it (via the lcd or color display)

PAGING alarms do just that...they PAGE you (via a vibration or beeping
key fob) when the truck is "disturbed"...if someone breaks the glass
or opens a door etc the alarm will send a page/alert to the key fob
in your pocket

As BushPilot said, the alarm with the kill feature is the thing to have. I was looking at one when I went and bought the Keenwood/Garmin GPS system and flat screen for the dually and after this weekend I moved the purchase to the top of the to-get-list.

Directed Electronics - Security & Remote Start

2way paging alarms, which include remote start, cool down / shut down
timer, glass break & zone (doors/hood) will typically set you back
about 400 or so buck...you can spend more...lots more...you can have em
roll up (or down) windows at the touch of the key fob remote too.

oh and the lock/unlock the doors (and have a blinking light) and alarm siren.

i bought a VIPER 5900SST (1 mile range to/from the remote/fob)...i paid
450 for the alarm, including installation...(out the door).
