Hi everyone, I'm new here and i just bought a 99 7.3L crew cab long bed. I put the Amp Research power steps on it and they work great except ft i let it sit for more than a couple hours i will come out and my steps will be down. As soon as i open the doors they go back up. Someone told me that my dome light is coming on randomly and triggering the steps. Supposedly there is a black box or something that goes wrong and makes this happen. I already did the WD40 trick to the doors and that didn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

If you are using the keyless entry to get into the truck and the dome light triggers the steps that is why the steps seem to be acting weird. The keyless entry triggers the dome light every time that you unlock the doors of you truck whether the door is open or not. I would stand next to the truck and hit the unlock button and see what happens next time.

well it seems like the dome light is not triggering the steps. i can unlock the doors and the steps do not come down unless i open the door. maybe something is wrong with the steps?

I dont know of any pressure switches. The trigger for the steps is just a wire that taps into the door latch switch. I was thinking that if it had a short it would probably trigger the steps when the vehicle is in movement as well. They only come down after being parked for more than an hour or so.

It's a long shot but I wonder if you have a latch sensor or mechinism that's bad in the door that is signaling the switch on the steps that the door has been opened???? I would check your doors.

OK I finally figured out that the steps come down exactly 45 minutes after I park it. Any ideas?
