When on our trip up north, the fuel gauge was on 1/4 tank. We had gone 406 miles and it took 22.3 gallons. 21 devided by 3 equal 7 gallons. 7 times 4 equal 28 gallons. Our truck is listed as a 38 gallon fuel tank. I talked to Ford Service dept. and they said that is a normal reading, and that the last 1/4 tank gauge reading will be about 16 gallons of fuel still left in the tank. Is that what you guys have found?, or is this guy giving me a line.

I dont fill up til my over head console tells me im 30-50miles from empty
If youve a linear fuel gauge then it might be the 1st one ive ever heard of.

on the interstate i can see 700-750mi to a tank around town i see some
where around 550.

i was 30miles from empty (on the "E") yesterday when i filled up the
pump kicked off at 31g and its barely on the F mark...i could have
squeezed more in (but i didnt wanna run my card again).

drive that thing til its ON THE "E" or below & then fill it & I bet youll
be able to dribble in at least 31g

what size tank came on your long bed bush? is it 38g?

the most i have ever gotten on one full tank, was just over 400. of course mine has a 29g tank being a short bed.

05s, 06s and I'm assuming 07s and 08s have a different fuel use tank strategy. Ford thinks it’s better to leave 15 gallons in the tank on a Long Bed (38 gallon tank will actually hold 42.8). Most I could ever put in my 06 long bed was 33 gallons and then the truck had been bucking for 75 miles. Now if you got a short bed (29 gallon tank actually holds 33 gallons) you can put almost 27 gallons in it before it will start all that foolishness. Sounds to me like Ford wanted to cut costs and didn’t want to keep buying sending units for long beds. So they just used the sending unit fore the shot beds.
I had my dealer go in the tank fix that, I think they just bent the float or something similar to that!!

mines the 38 gallon tank...longbed crewcab....on the interstate cruise set
at 72 i have squeeked out 700...but i was sweating bullets...and i
have pushed it to the limit a time or two...ive put in 38 and some tenths
gallons once or twice.

out on the interstate HAULING ass & TOWING i consistantly STILL see 500
550 miles to a tank

My fuel gauge is the old fashioned F, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, E. It does not have a lie-o-meter. On my invoice, it says it has a 38 gallon tank, but like I said when the gauge went down to 1/4 I filled it up, and it took 22.3 gallons. I looked under the truck, and the tank is massive. The service rep. at our local Ford dealer said that it was a common complaint that when the gauge reads 1/4, there is still about 16 more gallons in the tank. So if he is correct, I could drive approximately another 288 miles before empty,(if the fuel pickup is at the lowest point) when the gauge reads 1/4.
Our truck is a long bed.
Thanks for all your input.

it's all kinda relative... GM buries their sender in the tank to make it look like it never uses any fuel, but once it comes off full, it falls like a ... Um, "like a rock"
I remember they did an ad about that and they had some redneck idiot on there talking about how he's gone purt' near 100 miles and that needle still ain't left full yet.

Idiots...

I get about 100 miles to the full mark, another hundred to 3/4, another 75-100 to half, and then from there it's 50 to 1/4 and 50 or so ish to empty. Haven't ran it dry yet...
