Have a erratic engine miss much like a bad plug in a gasser.Dealer says I need a new EGR valve. $370.00. Error codes PO404,PO229,PO156, I can't find the last two codes in the 6.0L Bible. Does this diagnosis smell right?

Thank for any input, Dave.

Have you tried cleaning your EGR your self? It's not hard at all.

yep remove the egr, clean it real good and vacuum out the hole it was in
replace the o rings and go for a good drive
my 6.0 would start acting ODD when it got dirty or sticky

Clean the EGR and get the batteries and charging system tested because low voltage causes weird things to happen in this trucks. I see your in Michigan and it's been cold enough lately for charging system problems to start rearing their ugly heads. What year is your truck? The early 6.0's had wiring harness problems under the valve covers with chaffed and worn wires as well as bad connectors for the wiring harness that could cause the other two codes you had.

Thanks for all the comebackes

My ride is a 04 Excursion, we did have dead battery problems two months ago, charging system checked ok put in two new batteries. I thought the codes would clear when cables were disconnected. I'm going clean up the EGR valve,
flush out the coolant install a filter & hookup the 30ft trailer and head south. One more thing is there a real open/close drain plug on a 6.0L block or
just a freeze plug?

Freeze plugs on the block. Radiator has a drain valve, but it won't drain the block. I would not worry too much about it if you flushed the engine and rinsed it a couple of times.

Dave :)
