What causes the normal buildup around the boots?

Are they leaking?

Just buildup. The boots dont really leak oil or anything. The air does have some oil particles in them and as joe said, the boots will leak through microscopically. Its just a normal area that needs attention to keep clean. Too much oil on them and high boost pressures could cause the boots to come off. You can buy a boot kit that will help fix that prob.

Well, I used the Gunk Engine Brite tonight on the 6.0L tonight. Sprayed it on a cool engine and waited about 5 minutes before using the garden hose with a small sprayer nozzle. No heavy pressure. It seemed to do the trick.

I spray the engine (cool and dry) with Simple Green. Then I take a paint brush and wipe things off that are really dirty. Then I rinse it off with as little water as possible. I then crank it for about 5-10 minutes to build up heat in the engine compartment, helping it to dry faster. After it is completely dry, I spray Armor All lightly over the entire engine compartment. One picture is my wife's '04 Honda Accord, the other picture is my '00 F-250.

Hey Drew,

I need to run up to Tunica in a couple of weeks. How 'bout I just drop the Superduty off for the day and pick it back up after you make it look like yours?

Smoky,
Stop by anytime. I don't have time to detail it now because I'm so busy with school, but feel free to drop by.

Drew
