Direct TV/ Dish Network

Our new house in GA doesn't have cable. I have never had a dish so, who gives the best service/rates. I don't really need every channel just the basics: ESPN, Speed, Spike, CMT, DIY and whatever other channels that you usually get with cable service.

It is pretty much a toss up. It is more like "who will give you the best deal?" I have had Dish Network now for about 15 years now and I would not switch, but I won't argue who has the best programming. They both are about equal. You will get great reception on both.

I've been switching back and forth between DirecTV and Dish. Am currently on Dish because of the DVR....Direct wanted $99 for the upgraded receiver; Dish gave it to me free for switching. Prices for basic programming w/local channels are comparable between the two. I believe Direct is more reliable during bad weather, but otherwise I can't tell the difference.

Some new gadget I like comes along, I'll go with the one I can get it from for free.

I have Dish parents just got DirecTV after having Dish for quite sometime. We think the Dish interface is much better. I am told that DirecTV has a better picture, can't be much worse. Dish's picture is junk if you look at it closely, very pixelated and limited color palette. I have only had my Dish go out a couple of times and it was always because of snow built up on the dish. Brushed it off and it worked fine again. Prices are very close and if one had a deal you wanted I am sure the other would match it.

I have had both Dish and Direct tv. I stayed with Direct because of TVIO. I record 4 different channels on to sets. My wife gets her programs and I can get mine.
Well worth it -popcorn

I've only had Directv so I can't compare the two. The picture quality is excellent but during torrential rain I loose my signal. If Dish is worse that that... I selected Directv because of the programming. I don't believe Dish carries NGC. I recently upgraded to Total Choice Plus because of the science, military and history channels. Well worth the extra $5 per month.

We have DirecTV, because Dish treated my parents like dirt, and because until recently, my wife worked for DirecTV and we got our programming for free. It's still worth paying for.

I prefer Direct TV, been a customer for more than 13yrs...but when
we moved (back) from Virginia Direct TV provided me ZERO incentive
to stay w/ 'em (i had, at the time, recently lost TWO recv'rs & they
wouldnt help @ all or do anything to prevent me going to cable).

so im on cable for now...it has signal drop outs & pixel-ation issues
just like the sat. stuff would have (briefly) during storms...only the cable
drop outs are anytime (not storm related).

hell i lost a cable box (tivo/dvr type) and i just took it to the local
strip mall (where my cable company has a "store") and they swapped it
out no fee, no questions !

ill probably switch back EVENTUALLY...but i wont do it w/out getting
SOMETHING <equipment>...

I'll even up the replies for we have Dish service and for the most part it was the DVR service that got our attention which included the latest model DVR(Dish DVR 522) which came new,free of charge and installation was free for 3 TV's.

We we're Directv subscribers from I think 1996 right up to 2004 when we switched services,at the current time we see no reason to switch back,the constant thing of Directv changing cards was getting annoying,Dish on the other hand doesn't require cards for the receivers was another selling point for us.

If you're into HDTV,Dish has 30 channels of HD which will be our next upgrade to hopefully this year but shopping for the right TV is going to be an adventure-popcorn

HI-JACK...

man im telling you i feel fairly knowledgable when it comes to
technology etc but this HD/Flat screen stuff has really put me off.

Its been to my benefit to wait anyway & prices are falling like bricks...
but now its blueray vs. hddvd crap !
