OK, I found a 2001 V10 4x4 auto f250 ext cab (not crew) long bed. Swap motor/trans or cab/bed? and why?

honestly it's a flip of a coin in my mind you're going to be doing some notable changes either way. Either way to "do it right" you will likely end up stripping both interiors and changing out the wiring harnesses with the gas V Diesel & the Auto V Stick differences this would be the easiest way.

Keep in mind that your floor on the 6 speed is different than the floor on the automatic so you'll have some sheetmetal work there

There was some frame change in 5/01 though likely will not impact you, and based on what I can find in parts interchange info the frames are the same as long as the wheelbase is the same.

To give you a quick idea of the differences that I know between a F-2/350 and an Ex

Different front and rear shocks, different length and mounting
The fuel tank is at the very rear, behind the axle, in front of the hitch 44 Gallon. Same location a the 80-97 "rear" tank.

Spare tire is mounted INSIDE the cabin, left rear, like a station wagon, full size, does not store under the rear since the tank is there.....

Most of the running gear below the frame is the same as an F-250. Same brakes, calipers, etc...... The frame up is the difference. All Excursion came with a D-50 Solid Front Axle, and 3.73 gears (I believe). Most of the interior / exterior stuff is the same as a CC.... Front seats, dash, doors, overhead console...... etc... obviously the headliner, carpets and the like are different..... It is very similar to a CCSB F-250 body, but not exactally the same, as I have discovered over the years...... sorry.....

I will have to look about the hitch.... never noticed... it just hangs there and pulls the stuff I need.... never looked to see if it would come off...... will look when I get home.....

ok, I found a 2000 4x4 excursion v10. Nice as hell, dirt cheap, reman v10, auto. What would you guys do? Or would you do any swap at all (not worth it)?

I'm assuming the v10 trans will not bolt up to the 7.3l?

No Ford gasser motor tranny will bolt up to a diesel motor. Diesel motors generally have SAE bellhousings, like a #2 bellhousing.

the Ex would only be good if you want an Ex to drive and swap your PSD drivetrain into the Ex

No, the transfer case mounts to the tranny, and that is what needs to fit.

Dave

I dont think i was very clear on that question. Specifically, the v10 transfer case wont bolt up to my zf 6 speed? I assume it wouldn't but i'm just making sure

The ZF has a different output shaft. The case would have to be from a ZF to work.
