You probably have the O-ring in up-side-down, might try to verify that. Might just be twisted too. Take the cap off and see... Might want to have a new one on hand before though. IS it the orignal cap with the ridges, or is it aftermarket with the ratchet center?
Orignal is better.

Air intake is on one side of the grill below the windshield, forget the side, but it is the only side that has open slots.

well im pretty sure i have the o-ring in there right. the flat side of it is supposed to be facing downwards right? Its been so long since ive done it that I couldnt remember for sure, and naturally i threw away the directions. and the cap IS the OEM one. what are the chances of getting just an o-ring by itself? the cap does not appear to be cracked either.
