Anyone heard about a 2009(target date), 4.4liter V8 diesel derived from the Euro-spec 3.6-liter currently used in Land Rovers, which get around 31mph on the highway???

Just saw a blurb about it in the January issue of Popular Mechanics.

I have heard this rumor also. I tried to find an article but did find this one about the 2009 F150: Detroit Auto Show: 2009 Ford F-150 Uncovered!. I think most, if not all, of the Big 3 (or 4) will have a half ton diesel for the 2010 model year, so I'm sure that by spring or summer 2009, they'll start making their appearances. I can't wait!!!!!

There is an article in this months' Diesel Power about all the diesel motors that will be used in the 1/2 ton trucks.

ya, its not a euro spec though....it says ford/caterpillar. i guess this means they will be doing something at the very least. the article said it would get double the mileage that of a truck with the 4.6gasser. AWESOME.

Then you're probably looking at 28-30 mpg. If that happens, they need to cut production of the gassers by at least 2/3.

then you're looking at the cost of diesel fuel doubling again... just think.. $7.30/gallon
