What does my 1999 f350 drw have under the front? the dana tag says 610655-1 which means its 3.73 and housing says std, which I am assuming is standard, is this where it would say its reverse or high pinion?

Im getting ready to order some rings and pinions in 4.56 and 4.63(rear) all they make because its "close enough" being 1% off.

High Pinion refers to the pinion shaft. Is it at the bottom (low pinion) or near the upper part of the front end of the axle (high pinion).

It's a reverse cut hi pinion dana 60. All Hi pinion axles are reverse cut. As for the rear you must have the dana 80 drw and not the sterling 10.5 drw based on the 4.63 r&p.

I've had a couple of older trucks that had front and back ratio's off by .01 or .02 and they would bind up so bad it would take a few trys going forward and back pulling on the lever to get it out of gear and when it came out it was with a bang. I would think .07 is too much difference for most driving conditions. Just my 2 cents

1% is close enough you won't notice it, they come from the factory with that difference all the time. Yours is getting stuck in fwd for other reasons, It will only come out of 4wd when there is no tension on the transfer case. It will take that up in the slop of the gears and the transfer case.
